A little way out from the center of Montreal on the slopes of Mount Royal stands St. Joseph Oratory. This is a place of genuine pilgrimage which has risen in recent years in honour of the simple and saintly Brother André, a member of the Order of the Holy Cross, whose original chapel on this site was a wooden building only eighteen by fifteen feet. Here miraculous cures occurred and grateful patients have left behind them hundreds of crushes, sticks, irons and surgical shoes. Brother André died in 1937 but the fine domed Oratory set in the gardens and the millions who gather there every year suggest that his memory is still fresh in Montreal.
